Tech Tip For Door Panels
Here's a short technical article. If you've ever gone to all the trouble of setting up your door hardware mechanisms so that they work perfectly and then found that after you spent hours putting the panel on you couldn't get the opener ball to work, you're not alone. Here's my solution. Take an 18" piece of 3/8 steel or stainless steel rod and machine, cut or otherwise make a 1/8" wide X 14" deep slot in the end of it. Then put a 45 degree bend about 6" from the other end. Roll the car window all the way down and use this tool to move back the cloth shield over the actuator rod for the door opener. Then push the slot down over the rod and rotate it until you put a slight permanent bent in the actuator rod. Now try the knob. If no good, put another bend in it and try again. Worked perfectly for me and prevented the agony of removing that (poorly made Al Knoch) door panel.
