New England Chapter Regional Sept 2006

Well, it’s over and what a “Regional” it was. All the plans put together over the past months worked and all the volunteers did their job and then some.
Corvettes and trailers started arriving mid morning on Wednesday (a day early). The “trailer lot” crew worked on laying out spaces for trailers and was still able to handle the early arrivals.
Thursday started out with operations for flight cars and PV judging.
After completion of these stages, cars where placed in the show hall. The rain clouds held off the rain for most of the day. Some of the late arrivals had to do their operations in the rain (showers).  123 corvettes were place in the show hall by 5 PM.
The welcome reception was held in the hotel’s lobby courtyard. The Mayor of the City of Marlborough was on hand to welcome everyone and stated that City of Marlborough was  looking forward to working with us on the 2007 National.
At the reception, many friends from all over the country enjoy the food, drinks and conversations with friends not seen in some time.
Friday and Saturday featured Flight Judging, the owners, judges and team leaders began the process of judging corvettes from 1953 to 1991.
Saturday night’s banquet began at 7 pm and after the meal and a few drinks, the owners were ready for the results.
After the awards had been given out, pictures taken, hands given hardy shakes, the group worked its way to the bar to celebrate.
Sunday saw many of the attendees start the trek home and begin plans for their next corvette event.
Registrations for our event topped off at 281.
536 people attended with 181 corvettes registered and 75 of those came in trailers.
The New England Chapter had 90+ members attend and 41 of those received awards.
The volunteers, sponsors and donors deserve a lot of credit for the success of our event.
It would take up too much space to list everyone so I will limit the list to “sponsors and donors”

2007 Florida Regional Report

The Florida Regional was another great event.  Perfect weather, great cars and a lot of great friends.  The New England Chapter was well represented not only by members attending the event, but also on the judging field as well.  The 22 chapter members that attended the event with 10 members serving as judges.

Congatulations to Larry Maloomian and Harry Snow who received their Performace Verification awards. (second time is a charm)

Dick Capello, Joe Scafidi, Dave Brigham and John St. Peter made the trip by car as did Kevin Cavanaugh and Vin Capone.  Steve Cataldo and Jill Pais did the "shopping mall" road tour from Boston to Orlando.  Steve is well know by many of the store owners along the way as he bought something from just about every store along that he went by.  I saw a few NCRS 2007 National lobster shirts and even saw "Larry the Lobster" Regional tee shirts.

New England Chapter/NCRS
NOS Parts School
March 24, 2007

The New England Chapter held its first Judging School on March 24, 2007. More than 30 members and guest meet at Steve Cataldo’s “Customcraft Motorsports” shop in Danvers, MA. Dennis Sagamang and Joe Randolph laid out C1 and C2 NOS parts along with replacement reproduction parts for the school.
Dennis started the morning session with a short quiz. The audience was given a test questionnaire. Each person was to look over the parts which were spread out on tables and select the “original” part and mark their sheet with the answer they thought was the correct. After about 20 t0 30 minutes, Dennis had the group take their seats. Dennis then began to review the questionnaire sheets by asking the group which part was the original and which one was not. The group did well by getting most items right but also learn what the differences were between them.
After a break for lunch, it was Joe’s turn to test the group’s knowledge. Joe reviewed the C2 parts that were also spread out and discussed each with the group. There were a lot of questions from the group as to production of early to late corvettes and how it related to the parts. Joe used many parts from “reproduction suppliers” and compared them to the originals.

Be sure to visit the Chapter photo site for pictures taken at this event.

Here are some of the comments from some members who attended the  event.

Nick L. wrote: Great job by both guys. 4 hours just right. Very informative. More show and tell like these would be interesting. Maybe something in the future like “how to rebuild/restore" a particular part.

Matt S. wrote: The NOS parts sessions was definitely well worth the time. Even though I'm a C3 guy, it's very helpful to see the way GM made parts for the earlier models. I always pick up something that's helpful. The timing of the session was fine and Dennis and Joe did a fantastic job.

Chris H: excellent, one of the better tech sessions we've had. Dennis and especially Joe was very entertaining.

The next Chapter event will be held on April 14, 2007 at Ron’s Auto Restoration in Fitchburg, MA. details to follow.

2007 NCRS National Convention

Will there ever be a better National Convention in the future?  Sure, but it will take a lot to top the one our New England Chapter just hosted.
It all started back in November 2002 when the chapter first drafted a proposal for a regional meet in 2005, this proposal noted that the chapter intended to make a bid for the 2007 national convention.  Fast forward to the National Board meeting in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, in 2004 when Dick Capello and Dave Brigham attended the meeting and Dave presented our proposal for hosting a National Convention in Marlborough, MA.

When it was announced in the NCRS publications that we were awarded the 2007 National, a lot of people asked, “where the hell is Marlborough”. Well they all know where it is now and so many of them commented that this year’s convention was the best ever.  Four and one-half long years of hard work by so many New England Chapter members and members of other chapters in the NCRS family made this years convention the “best one yet”.

All the plans we put together from registration, trailer lot, and showhall staging/parking, all the day and evening activies, emptying the showhall to the awards banquet went off with out a hitch.

Our plan was to offer something for everyone, both day and night. Sightseeing tours, cruises, judging schools, tech sessions and kids’ activities filled the day time and the evenings included kids’ activities, the welcome reception, general membership meeting, North End dinner, New England Clam Bake featuring the Fabulous Hubcaps and the awards banquet filled the evening hours. Some of the events were a first: Road tour registration in Brattleboro, weeklong engine assembly session for the children (and many adults), and daily Corvette cruises to areas of interest.

Every volunteer should be proud to have been part of making this event the “one to remember”.  They all know where Marlborough is now.
For many of you it was your first National Convention. You not only had the chance to meet National Board members, National team leaders but you also had the chance to meet other corvette lovers from all over the world.

Finally, our chapter has again proved why it is one of the best chapters by not only its dedication to our chapter but to supporting NCRS at Regional and National events.  Ninety-seven (97) chapter members and their families attended the convention. Sixty-four (64) awards were presented to New England Chapter members and six of the eight National Support Team Pins awarded went to members of the New England Chapter.

I can’t say this enough, thanks for a great job and for letting me “use you and abuse” you all at the convention.
